City hosts ‘Chunk your Junk’

The city of Burnet is providing bulk trash disposal services on the first Saturday of every month in order to “keep Burnet beautiful.”

The event continues on Saturday, Dec. 4 at the northeast facility, 3675 FM 963, from 8 a.m. to noon.

Accepted items include: appliances (without Freon), debris, brush, electronics, household junk and tires not on rims (maximum four per household); items that are not accepted include: refrigerators, air conditioners, batteries, insecticides, herbicides, construction debris, tires on rims and wet paint.

Proof of Burnet residency required to participate in the program. Driver’s license or a utility bill can be used to prove residency.

HARTH in search of volunteers

HARTH Foundation is a non profit organization in Burnet that provides equine assisted services to those in need.

The nonprofit is in need of volunteers. Come help make a difference in someone’s life!

Native Plant Society presents ‘how you can help’

The public is invited to the next Highland Lakes Native Plant Society presentation/meeting Saturday, Nov. 20 from 1 to 3 p.m.

The hour presentation will be followed by a business meeting. The in-person meeting will be held at the Marble Falls Library. The society is offering both in-person and Zoom meeting formats.

Melissa Alderson, will present “Native Plants Benefit us All, how can you help?”

Melissa Felty (Alderson) has been the TPWD (Texas Parks & Wildlife Department) Conservation Education Manager for 3 years. She manages the Community Waters programs (Texas Aquatic Science and Texas Waters) and assists with Project WILD, a conservation education program for K-12 focused on the support of wildlife and natural resources.

Oakalla Library holds activities

Tuesday evening classes continue at the library. All students are invited to participate.

Story Time and Crafts held at 5:30 p.m. Art class, in which a different artist is studied each week, will meet at 6:30 p.m.

TSU scientist talks raptors with HLBWS

Raptor enthusiasts will want to hear Dr. C. Craig Farquhar’s presentation during the December meeting of the Highland Lakes Birding and Wildflower Society (HLBWS). The online meeting begins at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 2, 2021, and the “Raptors of Texas” presentation begins at 10:30 a.m.

Dr. Farquhar, a raptor ecologist with Texas State University, will discuss diurnal raptors: birds that hunt during the daytime, like hawks, eagles and falcons.
