Start 2024 “naturally” at Inks Lake State Park in Burnet County.
In January, visitors can choose from early morning get-togethers with park staff and “Nature Craft-ivities” offered by the rangers, staff and volunteers at the 1,200-acre park on the shores of Inks Lake.
The state venue itself is an easy day trip or a weekend where you can camp, picnic, hike the trails, visit the bird blind, swim, fish for sunfish, catfish and several species of bass or waterski or rent canoes, kayaks, paddleboards and even a pavilion. There are about 200 campsites and 22 cabins, most of which have access to the water.
To start the new year off right, the staff there will also host a menu of arts and crafts activities, led by a ranger or an expert on the topic. Cowboy Coffees are scheduled for Jan. 6, 13, 20, and 27, so parents can sip hot freshbrewed coffee while everyone learns a new outdoor skill.
At 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 13, “Nature ‘Craft-ivity attendees will learn about Fire Safety and a nature topic followed by an arts and crafts project. At noon on Sunday, Jan. 14, learn how an animal’s unique fur pattern or skull anatomy helps it survive and touch real specimens.
At 1 p.m., take a short but informative guided nature hike with a park ranger or volunteer.
