The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating the death of four people in a crash in Round Mountain on the eve of Thanksgiving. Also, just hours later, officers responded to another fatality, reported on Park Road 4 in Burnet County.

The reported head-on collision, which resulted in a quadruple death, was reported at approximately 7:15 p.m. Nov. 22 in the 14,000 block of U.S. 281 in Blanco County adjacent to the Burnet County line.

According to a preliminary report by DPS, “A Toyota Tacoma occupied by a male driver, was traveling northbound on US 281.

“A Chevrolet SUV occupied by a female driver, adult male passenger and two juvenile passengers, was traveling southbound on US 281 followed by a Nissan Versa occupied by a female driver,” the report continued. “For unknown reason at this time, the Toyota travelled across the solid double yellow lines into the southbound lanes and struck the Chevrolet.

“The Nissan struck the Chevrolet and rolled,” DPS stated. “As a result of the crash, the male passenger and two juveniles in the Chevrolet were pronounced deceased at the scene.”

The names of the deceased were unavailable from DPS on Tuesday, Nov. 28; however, a Fort Worth church bulletin and loved ones shared the identity of the adult male passenger and two juveniles who died in the Chevrolet SUV.

“With a heavy heart i (sic) just wanted to follow up with any of you that hadn’t heard that last night we lost a great Horn Frog, husband, dad and friend Zach Muckleroy and their two children Lindsay and Judson in a head on collision. Lauren, Zach’s wife is in critical condition,” stated former TCU Coach Gary Patterson in a social media posting.

Media reports in the metroplex identified Muckleroy’s children as a 12-year-old boy and nineyear-old girl. An update about the condition of Lauren Muckleroy, who was airlifted to the emergency room, is pending.

The preliminary DPS report stated that the driver of the Tacoma, who was airlifted to the ER, died at the hospital.

The driver of a third vehicle (Nissan) involved in the collision after the initial head-on crash was released at the scene.

“The Blanco County Sheriff’s Office, EMS, and Fire Department along with Marble Falls PD assisted at the scene,” the DPS statement read. “The investigation is ongoing and no more details are available at the time of this release.”

PR 4 Fatality

On the same day about three hours later, DPS reported another fatal collision, just off U.S. 281 but farther north in Burnet County.

According to the preliminary report, the crash occurred at approximately 10:40 p.m. on Park Road 4, near CR 119.

“The GMC pickup, occupied by a female driver and a male passenger was traveling northbound on Park Road 4,” DPS stated. “The vehicle traveled off the left side of the roadway and struck a tree.

“As a result of the crash, the female driver was pronounced deceased at the scene,” the preliminary report continued. “The male (passenger) was released at the scene.”

The identities of the driver and passenger and details about who pronounced the victims dead were not immediately available for this report.
