Dawgs fall to Tigers in close battle

September 12, 2012, 10:20 am by BurnetSports

The Burnet varsity Bulldog football team traveled to Rockdale on Friday and stumbled upon some giant, athletic Tigers, but as proven in the past size means nothing to the Dawgs.

It was a battle that had each fan base on the edge of their seats until the very end.

Both teams played like champs, it’s just unfortunate that numerous questionable calls played such a big role in the outcome of the game. Turn-overs that were missed, a late game changing touchdown that was called back, catches awarded that weren’t exactly caught, you name it and the tiger-striped refs probably missed it.

Refs aside, it was a great game that ended with much respect between players. There was more than just lining up and slapping hands. The athletes shared kudos, compliments and each school’s song before wishing one another well with their season.

The game started with a Trenton Hafley return out to the 27-yard line where the Bulldog offense got their first go.

It didn’t take QB Derek Kiser long to get his throwing arm in motion connecting with Jordan Barnard, Cory Cavender, and Cameron Langley in the first series, while Hafley, Andre Aguliar, Kiser, and Cavender each chipped in a rush.

The series lasted 11-plays and covered 67-yards before a Tiger interception at their own 6-yard line.
