Woman indicted in Marble Falls dog dragging
A woman accused of dragging her dog behind her pickup truck has been indicted by a Burnet County grand jury for cruelty or torture to non-livestock animals.

Maricela Sanchez, 27, of Marble Falls, will have her first appearance in court on Oct. 10.

She was arrested on Aug. 15 after witnesses said she had dragged her Chihuahua mix, Mimi, behind her pickup truck while driving between 5-8 miles per hour. Studies show humans jog about 3.5 miles per hour.

The offense was considered a state jail felony. By Texas law, Sanchez could face a $10,000 fine or imprisonment of up to two years. In a hearing earlier, the dog was taken away from Sanchez and put in the custody of the police.

The dog Mimi has nearly completely recovered from her injuries, said Marble Falls Police.

"You can see the scars on her feet, but she’s very peppy,” said Marble Falls Captain Glenn Hanson.

Hanson said that Mimi will be adopted within the next week.

"We’ve had so many people call, saying they wanted to adopt her, so we made a waiting list,” he said. "We thought the fairest way to do it was to do a lottery.”
