2 killed in Burnet crash on 281
Sheryl Evans and son Caeden

A mother and her son were killed Sunday about 11 a.m. in a two-car accident on US 281 in Burnet.

Burnet Police responded to the accident in the 2600 block of South Water (US 281 South) that took the life of 39-year-old Sheryl Evans of Burnet, who was driving a 2004 Hyundai car with her 8-year- old son, Caeden, as a passenger.

Police said Evans lost control of her vehicle when she hydroplaned during a rainstorm, causing her vehicle to cross the highway and getting hit in the driver’s side door by a 2011 Jeep that was driven by Larry Stewart from Troy, Texas.

Both Evans and her son died upon impact, police said. Stewart and his wife Sarah were both transported by Burnet Fire Department to Seton Highland Lakes Hospital. Justice of the Peace Precinct 2 Lisa Whitehead and Clements Wilcox were dispatched to the scene.

Burnet Police were assisted at the scene by Department of Public Safety, Burnet County Sheriff’s Office, and Burnet Fire / EMS.
