Mom indicted in son’s fatal accident

September 19, 2012, 1:00 am by James Walker

A 60-year-old Burnet woman has been indicted on criminally negligent homicide charges nearly a year after her adult son apparently suffered a seizure that resulted in a head-on auto crash that killed him and a 20-year-old man.

Peggy Dyess was indicted by a Burnet County grand jury for allegedly allowing her 30-year-old son, Jason Gillespie, to drive her car even though he was under a doctor’s orders not to drive because he suffered from an unspecified medical condition.

Gillespie was driving a 2010 Jeep Patriot north on US 281 at about 2:15 p.m. on Sept. 23, 2011 when the vehicle drifted into the southbound lane and struck the four-door sedan being driven by Joseph Venne, of Bertram, head-on.

Gillespie and Venne died at the scene, about 200 yards south of the Delaware Springs subdivision entrance off US 281.

I'm glad to see justice. I understand that this wreck effected both families and for that I'm truly sorry but the Venne's are friends of mine especially Joe. I miss him everyday that goes by. I hope and pray that people will take there medical conditions more seriously and understand that you are not the only person on the road. Love you Venne's.
