Mom indicted in son’s fatal accidentSeptember 19, 2012, 1:00 am by James Walker
A 60-year-old Burnet woman has been indicted on criminally negligent homicide charges nearly a year after her adult son apparently suffered a seizure that resulted in a head-on auto crash that killed him and a 20-year-old man. Peggy Dyess was indicted by a Burnet County grand jury for allegedly allowing her 30-year-old son, Jason Gillespie, to drive her car even though he was under a doctor’s orders not to drive because he suffered from an unspecified medical condition. Gillespie was driving a 2010 Jeep Patriot north on US 281 at about 2:15 p.m. on Sept. 23, 2011 when the vehicle drifted into the southbound lane and struck the four-door sedan being driven by Joseph Venne, of Bertram, head-on. Gillespie and Venne died at the scene, about 200 yards south of the Delaware Springs subdivision entrance off US 281. For more on the story, see Wednesday's Bulletin. Reader CommentsI'm glad to see justice. I understand that this wreck effected both families and for that I'm truly sorry but the Venne's are friends of mine especially Joe. I miss him everyday that goes by. I hope and pray that people will take there medical conditions more seriously and understand that you are not the only person on the road. Love you Venne's. |
