Last second field goal drops Dawgs
Taylor kicked a 37-yard field goal on fourth down in the pouring rain with just seven seconds on the clock to beat Burnet 9-7 on Friday night.

The Bulldogs wrapped up their pre-district play on the road Friday night at Taylor. Burnet scored on the very first series of the game when Jake McElroy took a 5-yard tote up the middle to the endzone. With 8:13 left in the first quarter Austin Huff kicked the PAT putting the Dawgs on top, 7-0 which was eventually the halftime score.

The next score of the game would not come until the fourth quarter and it belonged to the Taylor Ducks. With 7:31 left in the contest Taylor’s QB punched in a 1-yard score. A bad snap on the extra point resulted in a forced two-point attempt that Cameron Langley intercepted in the endzone which left the Dawgs on top, 7-6.

With five minutes left on the clock Burnet was forced to punt and Taylor took control at their own 29. The Ducks got off nine plays before they found themselves backed into a corner. A third down and 10 play from the Burnet 24-yard line was stopped short by Langley with just 40 seconds left on the clock. Without a time out to call on a fourth down play the Ducks were forced to send in the field goal team under a tremendous time crunch for a last second attempt with the rain coming down. The 37-yard attempt split the uprights with just seven seconds to spare and Taylor claimed the victory, 9-7.

Burnet finished pre-district play 2-3 with both wins coming at home. They will have a bye next Friday and will open district play on Oct. 12 at home versus Brownwood.
