Dawgs turnover district opener
Burnet senior Jordan Barnard makes a spectacular catch for a Bulldog first down during Friday night's district opener against Brownwood.

Burnet hosted Brownwood for the 8-3A District opener on Friday night at Bulldog Stadium. Despite a good defensive effort the Dawgs fell short to the Lions, 25-13 after two interceptions, three fumbles, and four turnovers on downs.

Burnet threw a pick on the fourth play of the game’s first drive but the defense quickly returned the ball to the Dawgs with a Cameron Chafin forced fumble that Tyler Krause recovered on the very next play.

That drive was short lived and ended in a punt which set the lions up at the Burnet 44-yard line. Five plays later Brownwood scored on a 21-yard pass to the endzone and went up 8-0 after a two point conversion which was the score at the end of the first quarter.

The Lions cashed in an 11-yard QB keep on the second snap of the second quarter and after the PAT it was 15-0.

With 5:52 to play in the half Brownwood stripped the ball from the Dawgs and took it the other way for their third score of the game. The PAT was good, 22-0 and that’s where the game stood at the half.

With time ticking away in the third Burnet punched in a 1-yard Cameron Langley run and Austin Huff’s PAT made it 22-7.

Following a 28-yard Lion field goal with just 2:21 on the clock Burnet moved the ball down field quickly with some beautiful Jordan Barnard catches and scored on a 10-yard route to Barnard. The two-point attempt failed leaving the score 25-13 which was the final after Brownwood secured the onside attempt.

The Dawgs will travel to Gatesville next Friday for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.
