Liberty Hill runs to 55-28 victory over Llano

October 12, 2012, 11:55 pm by Jim Goodson

LLANO --  Liberty Hill’s vaunted Wing-T rushing offense rolled to 446 yards and six touchdowns in a 55-28 win over Llano. It was the first District 8 3A game for both teams. Liberty Hill is now 5-1 and Llano is 2-4.
The home team Yellow Jackets had two weeks to prepare for the seldom-seen offense – and it showed, despite the gaudy statistics. The Yellow Jacket defense held the visiting Panthers below their season averages and the Llano offense outgained LHHS  555 yards to 466, getting 19 first downs to Liberty Hill’s 16.
A pair of special teams touchdowns doomed the Yellow Jackets as much as anything else.
Panther senior Jadon Boatright returned the opening kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown – and Liberty Hill never trailed.
Then in the third quarter, Boatright returned a punt 65 yards for another touchdown, rudely interrupting what had been a Llano comeback. The Yellow Jackets scored first in the second half when senior quarterback Layton Rabb connected with senior tight end Kassity Pitcox for a 35-yard touchdown that pulled Llano to within three touchdowns at 42-21.
The Llano defense, led by junior linebacker Caleb Penny, appeared capable of holding down the Panthers. But Boatright’s second special squad scoring scamper ended any LHS reasonable comeback hope with 7:07 left in the third quarter.
Rabb completed 20 of 34 passes for 354 yards and three touchdowns. Senior running back and do-it-all specialist Rhett Brooks caught nine passes for 244 yards and two touchdowns.
Seven different backs contributed to the Panthers’ 446 yards.
