Dawgs now 2-2 with big win over Llano
A Llano wide receiver can only watch as Burnet defender Jeremy Ayers jumps in front of a Jacket pass and takes it 38-yards the other way for a scoring putting the Dawgs on top 41-21.

The Burnet Bulldogs improved their district record to 2-2 on Friday night with a 62-34 win over the Llano Yellowjackets on the road. With 5:24 left in the first on a fourth down and goal from the two Llano elected to push across the goal line with a run. The Dawg’s defense was there quick and stacked up the runner moving him backwards but a very delayed whistle allowed the pile to be pushed long after forward progress was stopped and the Jackets got on the board first, 6-0 after a missed PAT.

Burnet responded with their first score of the night on their very next drive. It lasted 10-plays and was capped by a Derek Kiser to Trenton Hafley pass. Austin Huff’s PAT put the Dawgs on top 7-6 and that’s how the first quarter ended.

The Bulldogs added two more scores in the second quarter. They put themselves on top 14-6 with a Kiser keep and broke a 14 all tie with a 58-yard Kiser to Cameron Langley connected that had the Dawgs up 21-14 after Huff’s kick at the break.

Things got wild in the third quarter. There was a total of seven touchdowns scored, starting with the Jackets who raced 62-yards on the very first offensive play to tie things back-up at 21 all.

Burnet answered with back-to-back-to-back touchdowns to quickly take a 41-21 lead. The first came with 8:32 left in the quarter and was a 5-yard Kiser to Langley pass. The second was an 18-yard Langley run with 6:40 remaining in the period, and the Dawgs D cashed in the third on a 38-yard Jeremy Ayers’ pick six.

Llano responded with a 57-yard rush up the middle to get it back to a two score game with 4:38 still left in the third, 41-27. It didn’t take Burnet long to extend their lead and with 4:03 in the third they scored on a 46-yard Kiser to Cory Cavender connection making it 48-27.

The seventh touchdown of the quarter was a desperation throw on fourth and 10 from the 20 for Llano that landed in the hands of a Jacket making it 48-34 and that’s how the third finally ended.

With 9:53 left in the fourth Hafley brook loose and scored on a 62-yard run. Huff’s kick made it 55-34. The Bulldogs had one score left in them and it came with 4:52 left in the game on a Kiser to Blayne Parisher 25-yard pass and catch. Huff’s PAT made it 62-34 which was the final.

Burnet will play their final regular season game next Friday night at home when they host the Lampasas Badgers. For a complete game recap as well as an update on playoff potentials pick-up Wednesday’s Burnet Bulletin.
