Brizendine is survived by his wife Corrine; son Jamie Brizendine and wife Yvonne; daughter Ann Brock and husband Terry; grandchildren Vonnie Branch and husband Bryan, Lann Brizendine, Laurie Brock, Aaron Brock, and Hannah Brock; great-grandchildren Cayden Branch, Kyler Brock and Keira Brock; sisters Charlotte Barham, and Wanda Boswell and husband Sonnyl; sisters-in-law Janie Brizendine and Minnie Bell Brizendine. He was preceded in death by his father; mother; step-mother Nellie (Klose) Brizendine; brothers Blanton, Marvin and John E.; and sister Verna Katherine.
At the age of 19, Brizendine was drafted into the Army and served during the Liberation of the Philippines, on Luzon, and later in Japan. On Dec. 12, 1946, he married the love of his life Corrine Headrick, to which he was wed for almost sixty-six years.
Brizendine had a love for the land. He and Corrine farmed and ranched from the time they married until 1960. He worked as a welder for Garrett Wilkinson and as a surveyor for Pedernales Electric Co-op. He started ranching again for E. F. (Buster) and Carroll Allen and worked several years for them. He built his own house and helped build his children’s homes and his brother’s home.
Brizendine was a longtime member of Bertram Cumberland Presbyterian Church and during this time served as elder, secretary, and on various committees. He was also involved with and instrumental in work on additions to the church and manse. Brizendine loved his God, his church, and his church family.
He spent many hours and fun times at the baseball fields where he was known as "Papa” to his grandkids and all their teammates.
Brizendine was a loving and amazing husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was there for us, he was fun, he was caring, he set a good example, he took us places, he pushed us to do our best, he disciplined us when we did wrong, and he taught us how to have faith and how to make a difference. We miss him already; our family chain is broken and nothing seems the same, but as God calls us one by one, the chain will link again.
Visitation was held Sunday, Nov. 18, at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home. Funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 19 at the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Bertram with Reverend Daryl Johnson and Reverend Dr. Thomas Sweet officiating.
Those named as pallbearers were Phillip Brizendine, Edward Brizendine, Kenneth Brizendine, Ben Brizendine, Bob Knauth, and Dick Everett. Those named as honorary pallbearers were Jimmie B. Allen and Sammy Garrett. The Family would like to thank the staff at the Bertram Nursing and Rehab for the compassionate care he received while he was in there.
