Boy Scout Troop 284 of Marble Falls is having a cooked brisket presale fundraiser until Dec. 17 for summer camp in Colorado.
The troop of around 50 boys ages 11 to 18 will be sending 31 of their members to Camp Alexander near Colorado Springs, Colo. for a one week summer camp.
Troop 284 Committee Chair Trevor McBryde said that the camp is through the Pikes Peak Boy Scout Council in Colorado.
"Troops from all across the U.S. will be there,” he said. "They’ll be hiking, mountain climbing, white water rafting, canoeing, practicing riflery and archery, fly fishing and learning first aid and running water rescue.”
McBryde said that the trip will be the largest and most expensive excursion that the scouts have made, and that the troop hopes that the community will lend a helping hand.
"Other troops have raised money for this trip. This is our first run at it,” he said. "We’re hoping it will be successful fundraiser.”
The fundraiser will be the presale of smoked and seasoned half and whole brisket. The troop will be selling brisket until Dec. 17, and brisket will be cooked between Dec. 17 and Dec. 22, when it will be made available for pick up at St. John’s Catholic Church at 105 E. FM 1431 in Marble Falls.
"The Boy Scout parents and chaperones will be overseeing the smoking of the brisket,” McBryde said.
Half pieces between 7.5 and 8 pounds will be sold for $40 and whole briskets between 15 and 16 pounds will sell for $75. McBryde said that the purchase of the meat is tax deductible, and monetary donations for the fund are also welcome.
"The proceeds will cover the transportation of the scouts to and from the camp,” he said. "We’re hoping to raise between $7,000 and $10,000.”
Members of Troop 284 come from Marble Falls, Spicewood,
Burnet and Llano. McBryde said that he has hope that community members will
want to help.
