Stripes, Valero to open in 2013

December 11, 2012, 9:00 pm by James Walker

Two new businesses are pushing ahead toward construction and opening in Burnet next year amid a flurry of economic activity and optimism, City Manager David Vaughn said Tuesday.

Workers have already begun to demolish the structures on the sight of the Chaparral RV Park and Sales business on US 281 across from the Burnet Municipal Airport where a Stripes convenience store and gas station will go in, Vaughn said.

A Valero service station is set to go in at the northeast corner of the US 281 and TX 29 intersection as soon as current merchants are able to relocate, he said.

"They don’t have building permits yet, but they both have closed on the sale of the properties,” Vaughn said.

The two businesses could each generate about $50,000 in yearly sales tax revenue for the city and $30,000 in ad valorem taxes, the city manager said.

The coming of the two new businesses is a sign of an improving economy, Vaughn said.

"Things are moving in the right direction,” he said. "We are seeing more commercial activity than we have ever seen.
