Bertram city council appoints new mayor pro tem

The Bertram city council has appointed a new council member, selected him to be mayor pro tem and accepted the resignation of police chief Ron Hall in the past week.
The council members elected former councilman Glen Hopkins to fill the unexpired term of Dickie Allen, who stepped up from mayor pro tem to the mayor’s seat last month when Winnette Morris announced her immediate resignation.
The council then appointed Hopkins mayor pro tem.
Hall, who has continued to live in Kyle while serving as police chief the past two years, submitted his resignation last week and the council accepted it Tuesday and appointed Lt. Dean Stringer as interim police chief while the city seeks a replacement.
