Fraser’s water bills gain supportJanuary 24, 2013, 9:00 pm by Adam Troxtell
Highland Lakes officials who have been involved in water issues in recent years are supportive and appreciative of State Sen. Troy Fraser’s commitment to helping Texas meet future water needs that come from continued growth, they said Thursday. But that doesn’t mean they don’t have questions or concerns about the impact and viability of the three water supply-related bills Fraser filed recently in his role as chairman of the Texas Senate’s Natural Resources Committee. "We must keep up with the population growth and the resulting increased demand on our state's limited water supply," said Fraser (R-Horseshoe Bay) in a statement accompanying an announcement about the three recently-filed bills. "We need to start planning for that growth so that people continue moving to Texas." These bills present a three-pronged attack to tackle the state's water needs and would provide a $2 billion infusion of funding, restructure the Texas Water Development Board, and authorize local entities to form regional partnerships to solve regional water needs, Fraser said.
