He was born on Sept. 11, 1918 to Hulda (Rock) Laird and James Laird in Elvins, Mo. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, having served in WWII. He was a member of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local Union #286 of Austin and he had been a resident of Llano since 1982 coming from Austin, Texas. Survivors include wife Clara Pitts of Llano; daughters Debbie Stadler of Austell, Ga., Abbie Painter of Llano, Connie Center of Llano, Juanita Greene of Austin, and Pat Reeves of Austin; son Gary Pitts of Hardin, Texas; grandchildren Edwin Laird Wesson, Judith Keelye Wesson, and Helen Joy Kauffmann; great-grandchildren Johnathn Laird Wesson, Brittany Nicole Wesson, Destiny Joy Wesson, Denver Cole Acord, Dustan Joseph Acord; and numerous other grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife Alice Fay Laird; second wife Pauline Laird; daughter Judith Laird Halliburton; six brothers; and four sisters. Visitation was held Tuesday, Feb. 19 from 5-7 p.m. at the Waldrope Hatfield Hawthorne Funeral Home. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, Feb. 20 at 2 p.m. at the Waldrope Hatfield Hawthorne Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend James Sanderson officiating, burial followed at the Llano City Cemetery. Serving as Pallbearers will be Terry Bittle, Eddie Greene, Johnathn Laird Wesson, Dale Pitts, Kenny Cambiano and Jerrod Virdell. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local Union #286 of Austin. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Journey Fellowship Church or to the charity of choice. Funeral arrangements made under the direction of Waldrope-Hatfield-Hawthorne Funeral Homes, Inc. in Llano.
