Bertram council approves sex offender ordinance
July 10, 2013, 1:45 pm by Alexandria Randolph
Bertram City Council unanimously approved an ordinance Tuesday that increases the restricted distance of sex offender residence from schools and day cares.
The new ordinance will increase the restricted area from a 1,000 foot perimeter to a 2,000 foot perimeter. Currently there are five registered sex offenders living in Bertram city limits, and the ordinance includes a grandfather clause for current residents.
The council was unified in support of the ordinance.
"If we save one kid from going through that we’re
successful,” said Mayor Dickie Allen.
