Bertram raises water rate

Bertram City Council voted to raise the water rate for the first time in ten years during a meeting Tuesday.
City Treasurer Georgina Hernandez relayed a report from her meeting with Bertram Mayor Dickie Allen and a representative from the Texas Rural Water Association. The report said that based on a water rate study analysis that considered current water debt, salaries of utility department employees and water loss, the city should be charging more for water.
"Based on that formula and the numbers generated, the recommended rate for the city to charge for water is $32.55,” Hernandez said.
Currently the city charges a standard fee of $23 per month
for water with a 2,000 gallon limit, and has graduated charges.
