A new bill known as the Honoring the Fort Hood Heroes Act authored by U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, Congressman John Carter and District 25 Congressman Roger Williams was formally unveiled Monday at a press conference in Killeen.
The bill is designed to aid the victims of the 2009 Fort Hood shooting and their families, and follows the conviction of army psychiatrist Maj. Nidal Hasan, who killed 13 and injured 32.
Hasan was sentenced to death by a military jury last week.
"This legislation is something we wanted to get out there to take care of the victims and their families … this will help them get the benefits the deserve,” said Williams.
