The Burnet Bulldogs evened their District 8-3A record to 1-1 with a 45-0 win over Gatesville on Friday night. The Dawgs scored on five of their six first half possessions. A Derek Kiser to Brock Foster 15-yard connection put the first points on the board. Kiser returned to the air for Burnet’s second score finding Joel Johnson on a 15-yard route. Foster added his second score of the evening with 10:15 left to play in the half when he hauled in a 21-yard pass from Kiser. Trenton Hafley got in on the action for Burnet’s fourth score with a 1-yard rush from a direct snap. Burnet’s final score of the first half was a 25-yard field goal by Austin Huff who also added all four first half PAT to put the Dawgs on top 31-0 at the break.
The Bulldogs went back to work and scored on their first drive of the third quarter when Kiser found Johnson from 22-yards out. Huff’s PAT made it 38-0 with 8:24 left in the third.
Following a Gatesville punt Burnet increased their lead to 45-0 on a Hafley 3-yard run behind the jumbo package with 3:45 left in the third, and that was eventually the final.
There were several standouts on defense in the game including Eric Walker, Jeremy Ayers, Jake McElroy, Chase Mardis, Hunter Thomas, Cameron Chafin, Cullen Ferrill, Kody Hall, Jamal Brown, Tyler Krause, and many others that helped the Bulldogs pitch a shutout.
Burnet will take their 1-1 record on the road next Friday when they face the undefeated Liberty Hill Panthers who beat Brownwood on Friday. Pick-up Wednesday’s Burnet Bulletin for complete game results.
