S&W announces Baylor merger plan

December 14, 2012, 5:30 pm by Adam Troxtell

Scott & White Healthcare, which is currently constructing a new hospital near the intersection of US 281 and TX 71 in southern Marble Falls, has announced they intend to merge with Baylor Healthcare System and form a new organization, Baylor Scott & White.

The announcement was made by both organizations in a press conferences Friday afternoon in both Dallas and Temple. Once the move becomes official, Baylor Scott & White will be a $7.7 billion organization and the largest in the state.

"This is an exciting time,” Drayton McClean, chair of the Scott & White Healthcare Board, said. "You have two institutions who share the Christian value of healing coming together.”

President and CEO of Baylor Healthcare System Joel Allison said the move will not impact the medical clinic and healthcare center Scott & White is building in Marble Falls. The clinic is scheduled to be complete in the spring of next year, while the larger healthcare center will be complete in 2014. The $130 million medical facility project is expected to bring 570 full-time jobs to the area.

"They will continue with the development there,” Allison said.
