Sales tax receipts mixed for area communities

In the second round of 2013 sales tax allocations, local counties as a whole saw modest increases, but many cities in Burnet County saw less money than in the previous year.

The sales tax revenue received in the first two months of 2013 for Burnet County, over $1.67 million, is 6.53 percent more than what was received in the same time period in 2012. Llano County is up 7.77 percent at $161,517.70.

The state as a whole saw a 6.1 percent increase in January sales revenue for a reported $2.12 billion. From that amount, $741 million will be distributed by the Texas Comptroller to cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose taxing districts.

"Growth in sales tax receipts was led by the construction, retail trade and restaurant sectors,” said State Comptroller Susan Combs. "Receipts from oil and natural gas-related activity also continue to be strong. State sales tax revenue has now increased for 34 consecutive months.”
