5 to compete for 3 council posts; mayor unopposed

Mayor Gary Wideman will be unopposed in Burnet’s May 11 municipal elections but five candidates will vie for three other positions on the city council.

Council incumbents Mickey Phair, Buddy Coker and Pat Riddell filed for re-election and will be on the ballot along with outsiders Mary Jane Shanes and Derek Fortin.

Riddell, who said last week he was undecided about whether to seek another term on the council, was the last of the candidates to fill out and turn in to the city secretary’s office the paperwork necessary to have his name on the ballot.
