Stipends for competition get approval

March 19, 2013, 10:00 pm by James Walker

A stipend schedule for coaches and teachers approved Monday by Burnet Consolidated Independent School District trustees for the 2013-2014 school year will elevate the district’s ability to succeed against other schools in athletics and academic competition, Superintendent Keith McBurnett said.

"On average we will be as competitive as any Class 3A district in the state,” McBurnett said after a presentation to the school board members by Contessa Huffman, the district’s director of human resources and administrative services.

The board approved a total of $65,350 in stipends for the next school years — $42,950 for coaches and $22,400 teachers who lead students in University Interscholastic League academic competitions.
