Go Blue for Child Welfare!
April 04, 2013, 1:00 pm by Alexandria Randolph
The Burnet County Child Welfare Board encourages everyone to wear blue on April 10 in support of child welfare.
The significant of the color blue originated with Bonnie Finney of Virginia who lost her grandson to abuse in 1989 and began tying a blue ribbon on her car.
"All of April is Child Welfare Awareness month,” said Boardmember Martha Mezger. "There will be events all through the month.”
The board allocates money and other donations raised, including clothing, scholarships and holiday gifts, to children in area shelters. They meet every second Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the First Christian Church of Burnet.
Mezger said that information on Go Blue Day can be found on the Texas Welfare Board website at www.tccwb.org.
"We need people to wear blue that day to show support for this cause,” she said.
The board encourages the public to wear blue, post "Stop Child Abuse” signs and spread the word about child welfare.
