LCRA chair now wants water curtailed

AUSTIN — Lower Colorado River Authority Chairman Tim Timmerman said Tuesday that the authority needs to do everything possible to preserve water in the Highland Lakes including curtailing water used to assure a healthy flow of river water to protect environment concerns downstream.
In fact, LCRA should have requested an emergency order to do just that earlier this year and he doesn’t understand why it didn’t, Timmerman told fellow board members and authority staffers during a discussion in Austin.
”It is distressing to me that we are releasing all this water downstream when the (Lakes Buchanan and Travis) reservoirs very likely could be down to 500,000 acre feet of storage by the end of the year,” Timmerman said during the discussion at a meeting of the LCRA Water Operations Committee.
