City officials and the building and the land reached agreement to tear down the building at the May 28 city council meeting.
The building was inspected in January and found to be in violation of several property codes.
Fire Marshal John Erskine told the council the building was unsafe and recommended demolition within one year.
Property owner Dr. Michael Davis acknowledged the fire marshal and city code enforcement officer’s reports and offered his apologies for the state of the building.
After talking with Burnet City Manager David Vaughn and the city’s attorney outside the council chambers, Davis agreed to a plan to demolish the building.
The council then voted to accept a proposal to give Davis eight months to demolish the structures.
