A ribbon cutting Friday afternoon for officials and civic leaders marked the opening of the 66,000 square foot Scott & White specialty clinic at 800 W TX 71.
The clinic is the anchor for the Wayne & Eileen Hurd Regional Medical Center, a hospital of 200,000 square feet which is expected to open in the summer of 2014.
"We all know that we’ve been at this a long time,"
said Kevin Leeper, CEO of Scott & White – Hill Country Region. "The
good news is that we’re here.”
The first stage of the hospital will have 46 beds with plans to accommodate an expansion to more than 80 beds. The facility will offer multi-specialty medical care services including primary care, cardiology, general surgery, orthopaedics, podiatry, oncology, audiology, neurology, obstetrics/gynecology, optometry, ophthalmology, dermatology, urology and pain management.
Leeper said that the concrete for the slab of the hospital will be poured in eight weeks.
With seven physicians already hired for the specialty clinic and plans to hire another eight doctors, recruitment continues for the physicians who will staff the medical center. Ultimately, the complex will employ more than 500 physicians and staff members.
