Burnet City Manager David Vaughn recommended that the City Council keep the same tax rate for Fiscal Year 2014 that was used this year.
Vaughn and the city staff are working on finalizing the FY 2014 city budget and using a tax rate of of $.6265, the same as FY 13, the city manager told council members at their Tuesday meeting.
"If we hold the tax rate there the city will receive about $10,000 more in total ad valorem tax due to increased valuations,” Vaughn said.
Vaughn and the council are scheduled to hold budget workshops Aug. 21 and Sept. 11 and public hearings on the budget Aug. 27 and Sept. 10.
The FY 2014 Fiscal Year begins Oct. 1.
Also at Tuesday’s meeting, the council:
Approved an agreement between the city and the Burnet Consolidated Independent School District for a School Resource Officer;
Agreed to suspend the Burnet Parks and Recreation Advisory Board because the YMCA of Greater Williamson County, which has entered into an agreement with the city to run the Galloway-Hammond Recreation Center, wants to create its own advisory board.
