Bertram City Council has awarded a contract for a wastewater treatment plant expansion project to support city growth.
The project will expand the capacity of the city’s sewer system by 400 living unit equivalents. The council accepted a bid from Austin Engineering for $530,500, with the contingency that the city provide $118,000 to supplement a loan from USDA.
"We went out for bids on the sewer expansion project, and when the bids came back they were a lot higher than we expected,” Mayor Dickie Allen said.
Allen said that the original loan amount from USDA was $507,000.
"USDA said they had no more money to loan us,” Allen said. "Bertram had to come up with $118,500.”
