Judge, candidates announce their plans at Republican Club meeting
October 25, 2013, 8:00 pm by James Walker
Thursday night’s Burnet County Republican Club meeting produced a rush of political decisions as local races in the 2014 GOP primary continued to shape up.
Veteran County Court at Law Judge Randy Savage started the evening by announcing to the club members meeting at the Burnet Community Center that he will not seek re-election.
Savage was elected in 2002 and has been re-elected twice since then.
After Savage’s announcement, attorneys Linda Bayless of Marble Falls and Natalie Bennett of Burnett announced their intention to run for the County Court at Law judgeship.
Also, Burnet County District Clerk Casie Walker announced she will seek a second four-year term and Lisa Bell, 33rd District Court Judge Allan Garrett’s clerk, followed by telling the crowd she, too, will run for the District Clerk position.
Bell, who previously worked for Walker in the District Clerk office, has been openly campaigning for the position for several weeks.
Next up was Linda Rogers, the chairwoman of the Republican party in the county.
Rogers, as she did several days earlier at a Burnet County Republican Women’s Club meeting, told the group she will be a candidate and is keeping her options open as to just which office she will seek.
Marble Falls businesswoman Donna Wilcox announced earlier this month she will run for the county party chairman position.
To cap off the round of announcements, Bill Neve, the Precinct 1 county commissioner who told one and all before he won re-election to a third four-year term in 2012 that he would retire at the end of his term, told the crowd he has changed his mind.
"I’m running in 2016,” Neve said. "I’m in.”
