Emmet Cole of the Hoover Valley area was elected interim chair of the Burnet County Republican party at a special meeting of the organization’s executive committee.
He replaces Linda Rogers, who resigned the office Monday to run for Burnet County Judge in a Republican primary that’s expected to include Marble Falls Mayor George Russell and former Burnet County Commissioner James Oakley of Spicewood.
Kerry Spradley, president of the Burnet County Republican club and a precinct chair from Spicewood, said Cole told him after the election that he does not intend to seek election to the office when his appointment expires in 2014.
Donna Wilcox of Meadowlakes has announced for the top Republican post.
Party Secretary Penny Mills confirmed that at the closed meeting at Burnet County Republican headquarters Wilcox was nominated to fill Rogers’ unexpired term but lost to Cole by a 11-2 vote.
One precinct chair was not in attendance of the meeting.
Cole has been active in Burnet County Republican politics and has held office as a precinct chair for some time. He has also served as an election judge.
