The City of Burnet and the YMCA of Greater Williamson County celebrated their new partnership Thursday at the ribbon cutting for the grand opening of the YMCA of the Highland Lakes at Galloway-Hammond.
The city and the YMCA reached an agreement last year for the Y to take over the operations of the city-owned Galloway-Hammond Recreation Center.
The city spent much of 2013 remodeling the center, spending more than $1 million to transform it into a modern and inviting and more family-friendly facility, city manager David Vaughn said.
The YMCA took over full operations of the facility Nov. 1 last year.
The YMCA of Greater Williamson County chartered a bus to bring many of its board of directors and employees from its other facilities in Georgetown, Cedar Park, Round Rock and Hutto to Thursday’s grand opening of the Burnet facility and others came by private transportation to celebrate with Burnet officials and friends of Galloway-Hammond.
