BCISD teachers, staff get 2% pay hike

Burnet Consolidated Independent School District trustees took another significant step toward returning teachers and staff pay to a more competitive level Monday when they approved a two percent pay increase for the 2013-14 school year.
BCISD teachers and staff have fallen behind some other local school districts and below market norms in the past several years and Superintendent Keith McBurnett had promised to make it a priority to make up that lost ground.
Monday’s decision will cost the school district $383,400, and along with a vote in March to adjust the district pay scale to put it on track toward market compatibility, it means the trustees have committed to an additional $660,000 toward employee funding, McBurnett said after the vote.
"Between this and what we contribute to employees’ insurance we are very competitive,” McBurnett said.
