Fiddling for a good cause

A retired Methodist minister is doing his part one fiddle stroke at a time.
Rev. Wayne Hawley of Burnet has pledged to raise money for the St. Matthews African Methodist Episcopal Church through a fiddle marathon on Saturday, June 22, beginning at 9:30 a.m. Hawley plans to play 500 songs, many of which will be traditional hymns, to raise funding for a church that he regularly attends.
Hawley said that he did a marathon performance before when he taught at a church in Michigan.
"I was shooting for 1,000 tunes, and I pooped out at 600,” he said. "I would invite other musicians to come. I can maybe just play a harmony when others come (join in).”
Hawley said that he felt that the fiddle marathon would be a
good way to use his skill to support the church.
