Llano volleyball beats Brownwood

Llano’s varsity volleyball team won its District 8-3A opener against Brownwood Friday at Llano.

"Great job by the Llano Yellow Jacket volleyball team,’’ said coach Shawn Sweeten-Meredith. "We were able to recover from our errors, which has been a goal of ours all season long. It was exciting to see us take charge of Brownwood and execute.’’

Amanda Morgan led the 25-19, 25-13, 25-23 victory with 19 kills. Cierra Jordan added 10 kills and Lacey Redden had six kills.

Cheyenne Swenson had 16 assists followed by Morgan with six. Swenson added two aces.

Leading the defense were Morgan (five blocks), Jessica Wunderlich (three blocks, 11 digs) and Jordan (11 digs).

After a Tuesday trip to Liberty Hill, the Lady Yellow Jackets will have Gatesville and Lampasas in back-to-back district home games on Sept. 28 and Oct. 2.

Llano is 13-17 overall and 1-0 in district play.

Brownwood won both the JV and freshmen games. The Llano JV lost, 23-25, 25-19, 14-25; and the freshmen fell, 11-25, 19-25.
