Marble Falls looks for wins at Wimberley

Marble Falls volleyball team is working in a lot of new talent early this season.
The team dropped a pair in a dual match to open the season on Tuesday against Fredericksburg and Burnet at Max Copeland Gymnasium, but showed some spark in both matches.
The team will be looking for its first win when the team competes in the Wimberley Tex-Fest Tournament this weekend.
The tournament starts Friday with 20 teams competing in pool play.
The Lady Mustangs are in pool three, that includes Uvalde, Smithville, Austin St. Michael’s and Marble Falls. The Lady Mustangs have matches at 10 a.m., noon and 2 p.m. at the Bridges Gym. The 10 a.m. game is against St. Michaels, the noon affair against Smithville and the 2 p.m. match versus Uvalde.
Bracket play is Saturday.
Teams in the tournament include:
Pool 1 – La Vernia, Canyon Lake, Burnet and Comfort; Pool 2 – Wimberley, Lockhart, Blanco, Regents; Pool 3 – Uvalde, Marble Falls, Smithville, St. Michael’s; Pool 4 – Laredo United, Kerrville Tivy, Bandera, Caddo Mills; Pool 5 – Geneva of Boerne, Hondo, Hamshire Fannett, London
The Lady Mustangs dropped their opener on Tuesday to Fredericksburg, 10-25, 16-25, 13-25. Taylor Brackenridge led the team with five kills and Maddie Johnson was solid with four digs and a leadership role.
Amanda Thomas and Makenzie Carpenter was also instrumental in getting the team back in the match in Game 2. Both Thomas and Carpenter are multi-sport athletes and give the team some added boost at the net.
Other stat leaders against Fredericksburg were:
Kills: Brackenridge 5, Hanna Wall 2, Thomas 3
Against Burnet, the Lady Mustangs fell, 23-25, 25-17, 23-25, 25-19 and 10-15. Statistical leaders were:
Kills: Brackenridge 10, Carpenter 7, Thomas 7, Wall
5, Wyatt 1, Johnson 1, Long 2, Coulter 4
In the sub-varsity matches, the freshmen swept. The Lady Mustangs beat Fredericksburg 25-16 and 25-15; and Burnet, 16-25, 25-23, 25-18.
The JV lost both to Fredericksburg 19-25, 18-25; and
Burnet 23-25, 15-25
