Dawgs fall to 0-2 in 25-3A

Burnet’s Bulldogs faced off with a very tough undefeated Gatesville Hornets team on Friday night and fell to 0-2 in District 8-3A with a 44-19 loss.

Gatesville scored once in the first quarter and took a 10-0 lead early in the second. The Bulldogs answered with a pair of Austin Huff goals in the first half, but between the two kicks the Hornets scored another touchdown and took a 17-6 lead. With just one minute left in the half Gatesville completed a 40-yard pass and following the PAT it was Hornets, 24-6 at the break.

With 6:54 in the third Gatesville increased their lead to 31-6 after a 28-yard touchdown toss, and a few minutes later they were back in the end zone with an 8-yard run bringing the score to, 37-6 and that’s how the third quarter ended.

The Hornet’s added an 80-yard passing score on their first drive of the fourth quarter making it 44-6.

With 4:25 left to play Burnet QB Drew Dewald completed an 8-yard touchdown pass to Blayne Parisher in the back of the end zone for the Bulldogs first touchdown of the night. Huff’s Pat made it 44-13.

Following an onside kick that was recovered by Trenton Hafley the Dawgs drove 49-yards and scored on a 4-yard pass from Dewald to Cameron Chafin. The PAT missed its mark which left the score at 44-19.

Burnet again tried the onside kick but the ball was recovered by the Hornets who ran out the clock.

Burnet will play the Liberty Hill Panthers on Friday night at Bulldog stadium. The Brownwood Lions defeated the Panthers which brought each team's record to 1-1 in district play. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
