Dawgs earn playoff spot, 29-27
Burnet's Cameron Chafin (10) and Aaron Johns (8) celebrate as Jake McElroy (26) recovers a Burnet onside kick on the very first play of Friday night's game against Lampasas. The Dawgs defeated the Badgers, 29-27.

The Bulldogs earned themselves a spot in the playoffs with a 29-27 win over Lampasas on Friday night. The victory pushed Burnet’s district record to 3-2 and they will represent 8-3A as the third place team.

Gatesville claimed the district crown with a win over Liberty Hill and Brownwood defeated Llano to earn second place.

Burnet scored 20 first quarter points with one touchdown by Derek Kiser and two by Cameron Langley. The Bulldogs pushed their score to 26-0 in the second with a Kiser to Jordan Barnard 26-yard connection, but that would be all of Burnet’s scoring until the fourth quarter.

Lampasas scored once before the half on a 1-yard QB keep and at the break it was 26-7, Burnet.

With 9:28 in the third the Badgers added another score, moving closer at 26-13. Lampasas found new life with just seconds left in the third when they cashed in a 37-yard score and PAT making it 26-20 and that’s how the third ended.

Burnet got back on the board with 6:46 left in the game on a 19-yard Austin Huff field goal, making it a two score game at 29-20. The Badgers answered with a six minute drive that ended with a 2-yard score with 51 seconds left in the game. After the PAT it was 29-27. Lampasas attempted an onside kick that Burnet recovered and after a few Kiser kneel downs the game went in the book as a 29-27 Bulldog win.
