The JV football team moved their season record to 2-0 last Thursday night with an impressive road win over the Rockdale Tigers.
Burnet took first possession and after a 10-yard kick-off return by Wyatt Shepperd they set-up shop on the 25-yard line.
The very first snap of the game sailed over Bulldog QB Austin Moore’s head and Rockdale managed to recover the ball at the Bulldog 1-yard line.
It only took one play for the Tigers to punch it into the enzone and after a successful two point conversion Rockdale had an 8-0 lead with 9:30 left in the first.
Following Caleb Alexander’s 9-yard return on the kick-off the Bulldogs had a first and 10 from their own 34. Moore dropped back and found great pocket protection from Drew Baker, Kendric Guthrie, Sawyer Fisher, Michael Harris, and Tristan Briggs which allowed him to hit Joel Johnson in stride for a 66-yard touchdown. The PAT failed leaving Burnet trailing, 8-6.
Jes Craig had a solid special teams tackle to stop the Tigers on their own 38-yard line. On play number one Cullen Ferril, Peyton Utsey, and Ty Buster quickly dropped the runner for no return so on second down the Tigers went to the air.
Utsey was once again in on the defensive play but this time it was with an interception that he returned 16-yards to the Tiger 29.
Burnet was soon hit with multiple penalties and an incomplete fourth down pass left them empty.
Trent Rockafellow, Craig, Buster, and Ferrill interrupted Rockdale’s offensive scheme and before you knew it Burnet once again marched their offense back on the field after Shepperd picked-off a Tiger pass and returned it to the Bulldog 35. It was a short lived possession as the Tigers returned the favor snagging a Burnet pass and a personal foul facemask didn’t help the situation.
Craig ended the first quarter of play with a nice tackle for a loss that quickly put the Tigers in a hole. Two plays later the defense once again claimed the ball for Burnet this time on an Alexander fumble recovery.
