Rain stops JV game

The JV Bulldogs were looking to improve their perfect record last Thursday night when they hosted Canyon Lake’s Hawks.
Unfortunately the game was called early in the second quarter due to lightening but the Dawgs were already holding a 9-0 lead at that time.
Burnet took first possession and moved the ball down-field with runs by Keedrik Hill and passes between Austin Moore and Wesley Shackelford.
Moore also connected with Joel Johnson for a first down on the drive.
On second down near midfield Moore dropped back and threw to Alex Melvin who came up with a highlight one-handed catch that put Burnet in great field position with a first and goal from the six.
The drive ended with a third down interception in the endzone resulting in a touchback for the Hawks.
With solid defensive play by Kendric Guthrie, Peyton Utsey, and Mason Campbell the Hawks were soon faced with a fourth and 11. The punt snap sailed over the kickers head and under pressure by Trenton Rockafellow he fell on it in the endzone for a safety putting Burnet on the board, 2-0 with 3:10 left in the first.
Utsey had a nice return on the ensuing kick setting Burnet up with a first and 10 from the 50.
