Dawgs earn homecoming win, 32-24

The Burnet Bulldogs played their final pre-district game Friday night in Burnet. They welcomed the Taylor Ducks to town for their homecoming game and moved their record to 4-1 with a 34-24 win over the Ducks.
Burnet took a 7-0 lead on their first possession with a 7-yard Derek Kiser to Blayne Parisher touchdown. Alex Melvin added the PAT.
With seven-minutes left in the half Kiser found Korey Campbell from 31-yards out and following Melvinís PAT Burnet was up 14-0.
Taylor got on the board with just over three minutes left before the break when a snap sailed over Burnet punterís head and was downed in the end zone for a safety, 14-2.
The Bulldogs used their final possession of the half to add to their score with a 12-yard Kiser to Parisher touchdown. The PAT was no good making it 20-2 at the break.
Mid-way through the third quarter Taylorís running back broke loose for a 79-yard touchdown run. After a successful two-point conversion it was 20-10 with the Dawgs still holing on to their lead.
Burnet put more distance between them and the Duck on their very next drive when Kiser found Parisher at the goal line for a 19-yard score. Melvin hit the PAT and it was 27-10 Burnet with 1:59 left in the third.
Four plays later the Taylor running back returned to the end zone, this time on a 32-yard run and after the PAT it was 27-17 with just seconds left in the third.
Burnet back-up QB Taylor Barksdale scored on a 1-yard run with 6:47 left in the game and following Melvinís PAT it was 34-17 Burnet.
The Ducks added the gameís final score with only 1:26 to play on a 13-yard rush, the PAT was good bringing the final to 34-24, Bulldogs.
Burnet will have a bye week before their first district game on Oct. 11 in Brownwood.
