Robert Wayne Woods Sept. 16, 1951 ~ Sept. 18, 2012

Ronald Wayne Woods, 61, of Highland Haven passed away Sept. 18. He was born to Charles and Frances (Hunter) Woods on Sept. 16, 1951 in Amhurst, Texas. At age nine moved to Randolph AFB in San Antonio.
Mr. Woods proudly served his county in the United States Army during the Viet Nam War. He was married to Joan Butts in Schertz, Texas at Good Shepherd Catholic Church on Aug. 2, 1974. Ron was a Department of Safety trooper, retiring from the DPS in 2008 as a trooper Lieutenant. He spent most of his career at the State Capital.
He moved from Austin to Highland Haven in 2008. He, after retirement, also worked for the Llano County Sheriff office and volunteered as a chaplain for the Llano County Sheriff office. Ron was ordained as a Deacon in the Catholic Church in Feb. 2007. He was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church in Kingsland, 4th Degree Knight of Columbus. In his spare time he enjoyed camping, coaching kid’s sports, cruising to Alaska, Mexican Riviera and Hawaii and numerous other places, playing golf and saltwater fishing with his father-in-law and son.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Joan Woods of Highland Haven, Texas, son and daughter-in-law: Charles and Jennifer Woods, of Granite Shoals, granddaughters, Mariah, Isabella and Victoria Woods, of Granite Shoals, mother, Frances Ready, of Albuquerque, N.M. and several brothers and sisters.
A visitation was held Friday, Sept. 21 with a Rosary at the Putnam Funeral Home. The Mass of Christian Burial was said at St. Helens Catholic Church in Georgetown, on Saturday followed by burial with military honors at Our Lady of the Rosary Cemetery in Georgetown.
