Farrell Patrick Whelan March 5, 1928~Sept. 24, 2012September 14, 2012, 9:01 am by Staff Reports
To his Wisconsin family he is "Farrell;” to his Texas and Michigan family and friends, he is "Pat” or Patrick. Farrell grew up in Lena, Wis. He felt privileged to have served his country in both the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Air Force during World War II and the first part of the Korean conflict. After discharge from the military, he went on to attend and graduate from Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, with a Bachelor of Arts in 1954. He then attended Southern Methodist University in Dallas, graduating with a Bachelor of Law in 1958. He was admitted to the Texas State Bar in Dec. 1957. Pat lived in the Dallas Metroplex for a number of years where he worked for both the Dallas County State Bank, and the Texas Bank and Trust. He was also in private law practice for a short while before moving to Austin, where he worked for the Texas Education Agency. Pat retired from the Texas Education Agency Mar. 31, 1992. Upon retirement, he indulged in his hobbies of fishing, football (TCU Horned Frogs and the Green Bay Packers), his grandchildren, building (he built a house and furniture for Molly) and travel. In the summer of 2006, Pat and Molly decided that the Texas heat was a bit too much and decided to become snow birds. They purchased a home in the beautiful Upper Peninsula of Michigan at Skanee, where they made their home for six months of the year enjoying their church, fishing, wildlife, and the camaradie of many good friends. Visitation was Thursday, Sept. 27 from 5 p.m. 7 p.m. at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home, Marble Falls. Funeral service will be Friday, Sept. 28 at 10 a.m. at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home with Pastor Judy Mattson officiating. Interment will follow at Fall Creek Cemetery in Spicewood. Memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church, 12511 Roland Lake Road, Skanne, Michigan 49962 or to the Texas Christian University of Fort Worth, Texas (TCU) Scholarship Fund.
