Billie Ruth Henry Nov. 14, 1922 ~ Oct. 1, 2012
Billie Ruth "B. Ruth” Henry passed away Monday, Oct. 1, in Burnet. She was born Nov. 14, 1922 in the Turkey Bend area of Burnet County to William Henry Phillips and Dollie Hood Phillips. She lived in Burnet Country for the entirety of her life. The majority of her life was spent with "Pete,” her husband and companion of 55 years. They shared a dream of owing their own ranch, which they eventually did. They proudly shared a ranch that was on land that contained the school that she and her sisters rode horseback to attend, many years before.
When not on the ranch, she and Pete were congregational cornerstones of the Vanderveer Street Church of Christ. Henry spent many hours cooking, serving food, and helping with various activities in her church and the local nursing home. She also had a passion for helping at the Cherokee Children’s Home and was described as someone with a servant’s heart. In her later years, before moving to the nursing home, she spent many hours chasing grandchildren. She will be missed by her many family members, friends, and her congregation.
She is survived by her son Charles Eugene "Gene” Henry and wife Linda of Georgetown; grandchildren Kellie Strain and husband Carter of Burnet, Valerie Henderson and husband Jacob of Lancaster, Calif., Alicia Graham and husband Robert, of Georgetown, and Brad Henry and wife Lacey, also of Georgetown; great-grandchildren Logan Strain, Caden Strain, Kayla Strain, Ciaus Strain, Brett Henderson, Brenden Henderson, Shane Henderson, James Graham, Luke Henry and Eli Henry; sister Joyce Anna Gay Phillips Jarvis; and by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and longtime friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Larry Stillman Henry, and siblings Ernest Lee Phillips, Elma Lorene Phillips, and Ruby Estelle Phillips Sylvestor.
Visitation was held Wednesday, Oct. 3, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home. The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Oct. 4, at the Vanderveer Street Church of Christ officiated by Minister Tim Denton. Burial followed at Smithwick Cemetery. Those honored as pallbearers were Brad Henry, Kelvin Keele, Troy Ellett, Elton McCoy, Rex Lastly, and Rusty Squyers.
Memorial contributions in memory B. Ruth may be made to the Vanderveer Street Church of Christ or the Cherokee Children’s Home. An online guest register is available at www.clementswilcoxburnet.com.
