Helen Garnaas Stover Feb. 1, 1925 ~ Oct. 7, 2012September 28, 2012, 9:06 am by Staff Reports Helen (Brisbois) Garnaas Stover, age 87, of Marble Falls, passed away on Oct. 7. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Lee Stover. Stover was born in Emmetsburg, Iowa, on Feb. 1, 1925, and grew up in Minneapolis, Minn. Her life was defined by her service to others. Most notable were her many years of volunteer work on behalf of the Marble Falls Public Library, where she served on the library board for 20 years. As a volunteer, she managed the library thrift store and over 40 volunteers for 21 years. Profits from the store helped to finance a new library for Marble Falls. Not only did Stover manage the thrift store to benefit the library, she was instrumental in using the thrift store to assist residents in the community who were in need. She collected children’s clothing to send to the elementary school on an ongoing basis. She gathered donations for families who had lost everything in fires, storms, and other tragedies. She also organized items to be sent to area nursing homes. When Hurricane Katrina victims came to the Marble Falls area, she made sure they had donations of bedding and clothing. In November of 2011, Stover was recognized as Volunteer of The Year for the entire Texas Highlands Region. Her life is celebrated by her children Bob Garnaas and wife Janet Garnaas, and Becky Malkerson; grandchildren Brian Malkerson, Sarah Malkerson, Gretchen Garnaas, Charlie Garnaas and Holin Garnaas; and her many, many friends in Marble Falls. A Memorial Service was held on Thursday, Oct. 11, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church of Marble Falls with Rev. Danielle Casey officiating. Memorials can be sent to the Marble Falls Public Library, 101 Main St, Marble Falls. Condolences may be offered at www.clementswilcoxfuneralhome.com. Arrangements were under the direction of Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home, Marble Falls. |
