Margaret coined him "Bob” and he went by M. R. Bob Alexander thereafter.
After the war, as a young man, Alexander was a door-to-door Bible salesman while attending Abilene Christian College as a Ministerial Student. He then transitioned to selling roofing and remodeling door-to-door for 25 years.
For a time, he was a minister at West Avenue Church of Christ, in San Antonio. Later in life, he went to work for Sterling Bakery in San Antonio, where he was encouraged to become an Accountant and complete his Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from the University of Texas at San Antonio.
He was married to Ella Mae Boyer twice, and lifetime friends with Gertrude "Trudy” Carmine. He retired to Rocky Top on Lake Buchannan in 1988. He devoted his retired life to researching Bible history and ministering to others through a newsletter.
He researched and wrote the Alexander Family History in a series of newsletters as well. He lived at the Herman and Sons Retirement Home for six years, then moved to his final residence in Burnet. In June of 2012, he attended his 76th consecutive Alexander Family Reunion, where he was honored for being the Oldest Alexander in attendance.
He is preceded in death by Clebe, Era Del, Margaret, Bob Jr., and Trudy. He is survived by four sons, twelve grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were held on Saturday, Nov. 3, at 2 p.m. with his son, Dan Alexander officiating at the Alexander Family Cemetery in Lampasas. Friends can express their condolences at www.edgarfh.com.
