Oswald Alvin Laake, 82, was born on June 16, 1930 in New Ulm, Texas, to Paul and Roxie Schramm Laake. He passed away on Friday, Jan. 4 in Bryan.
Oswald and Charlie were married in 1956, and were residents of Buffalo from 1957 to 1966. They lived in Madisonville from 1966 to 1989 and then moved to Marble Falls. They returned to Madisonville in 2009.
Laake and his wife Charlie Bess were charter members of the St. Leo the Great Catholic Church in Centerville and founding members of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Madisonville. Laake was a production foreman with Mitchell Energy and Production, and enjoyed woodworking, hunting and fishing. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Marble Falls and had a 4th Degree.
He was preceded in death by his wife Charlie Bess Laake. He is survived by sons Gerald Laake and wife Cathy of Conroe, Doug Laake of Sugar Land, and Kenneth Laake and wife Wendi of McKinney; daughter Sandra Johnson and husband Bobby Jack of Madisonville; sisters Annie Hollmann of Columbus, Agnes Richter of Columbus, Nola Richter of Columbus, Viola Kretzschmar of Huntsville and Martha Stancik Homeier of Columbus; grandsons Zachary Laake, Seth Laake, Jared Laake, Payden Laake, Justin Laake, Sam and Kinsey Johnson, and Jack Johnson and Brittany Mills; granddaughters Amy Bray, and Amber Caffee; and great grandchildren Ava Johnson and Gavin Johnson.
Visitation was held from 6-8 p.m. with a rosary at 7 p.m., Monday, Jan. 7, at the Madisonville Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be held at 1 p.m., on Tuesday, Jan. 8 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Marble Falls with Bishop Joe Vasquez officiating. Burial will follow in the Smithwick Cemetery near Marble Falls.
Pallbearers will be Laake’s grandsons: Zachary Laake, Seth Laake, Jared Laake, Payden Laake,
Justin Laake, Sam Johnson and Jack Johnson.
