Counts served his country during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged to return to the Texas Hill Country. Later, Counts moved to Minnesota where he also has family and many friends.

Hardy and wife Debra of Marble Falls; and sister Ruth and spouse Lynn of Starksville, Texas.
A private service will be held in Port "’Conner, Texas, on Jan. 25.
